Are you suggesting men can't be sexually assaulted?

Not person you are talking to, but this sort of thing is very different when done to a woman because of the context and the history of how women are treated. This sort of thing is generally, when done to a woman, intended to be sexual. There was none of that intent from James and there is none of the history of assault of women. So while men can be sexually assaulted, this is not an example.

I would also point towards the way that the scene is written and depicted in the books as a key indicator to look at

Does Rowling really strike you as the kind of person who'd recognise anything as a sexual assault that wasn't like, a silent movie villain twirling their moustache? Her main moral code of the entire series is that torture and slavery can be acceptable providing a Gryffindor does them.

That reminds me of the time when a guy was sodomized with a broomstick and it was declared not to be sexual assault because they didn't intend it to be sexual

So sexual assault depends on intent?

Like if a guy yanks up a girl's skirt as a prank and not with sexual motivations it's cool?

(Anonymous) 2018-11-02 12:15 am (UTC)(link)
Are you talking about the intent of the writer creating the fictional scene, or the intent of someone actually doing it in real life

Stop putting words in peoples mouths. Literally no one is saying that but you. Get over yourself. Nobody wants to drama with you. No one wants to argue semantics with you. No one owes it to you to check their privilege. I'm sick to death of people who argue the way you do. It's juvenile and devoid of any meaning or substance. Grow up and learn some fucking nuance. Stop trying to create problems. No one is impressed.

'Literally no one is saying that but you.'

If you're saying "It's not sexual assault if it happens to a guy because of the context" yes you fucking are.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-01 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I am not suggesting that, nor do I believe it.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-02 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
Then what makes one sexual assault and not the other?

(Anonymous) 2018-11-02 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
the context

(Anonymous) 2018-11-02 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
Which is he's a guy.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-02 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
I don't think it was written that way in the books

I think if it had been written differently, it could have been sexual assault, but it wasn't
