Guess there should be a comma in there, but meh. My point still stands. Hate Snape all you want. Can't make me stop loving him.

I’m not any of the anons in this thread so far, and I’ve stanned for Snape on occasion, but even when I was reading my way through Snape/Hermione fic back in the day, it was obvious to me that the character in canon was not a good person or justified in treating students in his care like shit.

Romantic fic Snape was, to steal a phrase, Snape in Leather pants. As a severely bullied kid I identified with that aspect of his story, but I never joined any groups dedicated to the genocide of people I disliked for bullying me, or crushes that rejected me in favor of my bullies. And I always end up kind of pissed off when people lionize (heh) Snape’s suffering as though he didn’t turn around and become a bully himself.

I don’t think his character was a totally irredeemable shitstain, but he was cruel and nasty to children under his care for things they couldn’t help.
