No one thinks that. They think Snape is good because he was helping Harry all along.

Sure. That was bad phrasing on my part. It's not the reason that they think Snape is good, it's the reason that they choose not to care about his use of racial slurs, or bullying kids he teaches, or joining the Death Eaters.

That makes Snape only 75% of an asshole instead of 100% of one.

Never said he was good, just that there's Real Psychology behind it and narrowing it down to, "He did this... He must have always been evil............" is bad and kind of indicative of fandom culture as a whole where everything HAS to be 100% black and white and characters are just cardboard cutouts.
