That sounds so incredibly dumb. Why would they axe a show just because the second half of the first season was weak when S2 was good and people liked it? (not that people disliked season 1 either, so the argument is dumb from the start)

Because the shitty second half of S1 caused less people to watch S2.

nayrt

Nope. Season 3 had already been planned. It was creative disagreements between Netflix and Disney that resulted in the show's cancellation, not low ratings.

Lol. So neither Netflix nor Disney want this incredible money maker...

First, nobody in this thread said it was an incredible money maker, least of all me. Second, it's not that simple. Disney likely wants more control over how Marvel characters and their storylines are portrayed because they're planning on launching their own streaming TV service. Netflix knows this, doesn't want to let one of their potentially high performing Marvel TV series go, but I'm guessing Disney execs have veto power and they've used it to derail season 3.

Fans are betting this might pave the way for another more family-friendly series involving Luke Cage and Iron Fist on Disney's streaming services, which might be what Disney was angling for all along.

Yeah, S2 was great and they did a lot more even with the "fighting villain" (as opposed to Mariah or Cottonmouth!) in this one. At the same time, I think the Disney thing is going to involve a lot of shake-ups like this as they consolidate their various properties, and I don't think Luke Cage was unfairly targeted or anything - I'm pretty sure Daredevil and Punisher are going down too, and the only reason Jessica Jones hasn't yet is that they were already filming S3.
