nesting

Does anyone else go into nesting mode once fall hits?

I mean, I'm not a dedicated cook or housekeeper, and nothing in my house matches or is decorated really, but once November hits? I'm cleaning, cooking stews, purging, organizing, freaking sewing placemats wtf. It happens every year without fail, and it's like a completely instinctual compulsion that I don't really understand other than I guess this is how my many ancestors survived long winters in relative comfort.

Not really, but if you've got a pattern for those placemats? >__>

I like the really cheesy quilted kind with the gimmicky flatware pockets LOL. Like this:

I've also been known to add random embroidery because why the fuck not.

Cute! Thank you. :D

My nesting impulse isn’t seasonal that I’ve noticed, but I’m always sad that I’m not rich enough to indulge in new furniture or anything when it hits; my clothes and furniture are mostly secondhand or hand-me-downs.

I always make tons of baked goods during fall. Nothing fancy, just some cookies and bread, but I make so many of them that I have to give them away to friends and family because I can't eat them all.

It almost feels like an instinctual requirement to make as much food as possible in fall.

I only notice my reaction to the other half of the year. I progressively give less of a fuck about life when summer comes around.

OP here, omg same. August in particular is very hard on me.

Yeah, I do. I think it's a misplaced need to hibernate, and the first step is to make everything cozy. Soups and stews, the flannel blankets come out, I organize my sweaters and cardigans, I bake more, etc.

YES, if by nesting you mean wanting to hibernate with food, Internet, and good films.
