Innocuous things that bug you

(Anonymous) 2018-11-04 08:19 pm (UTC)(link)
And in b4 replies along the lines of "why would that bother you?", guys, the point of this thread is things that shouldn't bug people, but do.

People who redecorate their houses and give you a "tour" of every angle of the wall they painted a brighter shade of white.

I don't care in passing, but does it need to be a 2 hour long conversation?

There's a road in my town that has planted areas on either side of it and people in the community DEMAND that it be planted with fresh, green, well-watered grass rather than drier, more drought-tolerant native plants, despite the fact that we live in a drought-prone area and it's a massive waste of water.

Drives me mad.

Ha. Yeah definitely need to go with what's appropriate for the spot. My town dumped a heap of mulch on top of a sloped nature strip and we had rain a week later. Now it's all over the road and path.

...wait;;
People are actually complaining about already well planted foliage, which doesn't even have to be there in the first place. So that someone might plant something else that'll probably die by next season?!

I mean it might be different where I live, but in my city we actually have multiple 'gardens' along our streets, that are basically made up of our local weeds... All purposely planted...
I love them, and I'd have to agree that I'd be annoyed by no end if people tried to change them.

When people I know use filters and edit their photos. I want to like a picture of you, not blurry face barbie. Obviously they can do what they want and I'm not going to tell them they look stupid.

People pronouncing nuclear as "Nuk-yu-lur." I mean everybody knows what they're saying so why should it bother me?

That's the first time I've heard of that pronounciation and I feel sick.

When people only make public posts on Facebook. A lot of them are people I used to know in fandom, and I try very hard to keep fandom and RL separate, so I can never comment on their fandom related posts.

It bugs me that people on FB hardly seem to filter at all even when they really, really should.

The noise people make while eating. GAH

Re: Innocuous things that bug you

(Anonymous) 2018-11-04 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
You might have misophonia. I have it and listening to people eat is a major trigger for me (makes me irrationally angry).

I'll actually loose my appetite, or even feel sick, when having to listen to people chew/smack their lips/I can't even begin to describe;;
On more than one occasion I've had to tell my family, or someone around the table, to keep from making so much noise... I feel like such an asshole, but I really couldn't keep on eating while hearing all the noise they were making;; ugh;;

This hasn't been relevant in years since I'm not in college anymore, but I was just thinking about how much I hated when people would talk in the computer lab. But looking back, I think it must have been my ADHD more than anything anyone was doing wrong, because everyone did it. It's just that for me, a conversation nearby was like drills going through my head SHUT UP KAREN NO ONE CARES ABOUT YOUR AWKWARD EHARMONY MATCH I'M TRYING TO WRITE A PAPER.

Absolutely! I'll get this when riding in the backseat of a car. Any surrounding noise/radio sounds makes any conversation from the front completely incomprehensible to me;; I can only ask someone to repeat themselves so many times until I just smile and nod the whole way through...

My mom likes every single of my posts on FaceBook. Even the ones that don't concern her and she shouldn't understand, even the ones who would elicit an angry or crying smiley from more-media savvy people.
I know it's all in good intent and she only means unconditional love and support but at times it irks me.

Re: Innocuous things that bug you

(Anonymous) 2018-11-04 09:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Filtering her out for posts that don't concern her would fix that in a jiffy.

Maybe talk to her about it?? I know you know she only means well, but, hey at least there's that;;?

My boss says MAY-sure instead of MEH-sure. Thankfully, I know at least one person who noticed it to during a meeting we had.

Are they from your area, or do they have an accent? Because I don't think I've ever heard measure said that way unless there was a heavy southern accent involved;;

The New Yorker's weird verbal anachronisms like using '30s slang like "stymied", spelling "ice cream" and "teenager" with hyphens, using "see" to mean "have sex with" or "weeping" instead of "crying", spelling "coordinate" or "cooperate" with an umlaut, etc.

Calling things "monkey" things because they're kid-friendly. Monkey munch, monkey bread. I think it's a stay-over from when I was a kid and didn't like monkeys and thought chimpanzees ranged from annoying to terrifying, but it was this thing assumed to be generally juvenile.
