I remember when that was a *big* thing in writing circles on LJ and ff.net, and people would post 'conversations' they had with the characters/their 'muse' that were supposedly-cutesy 'arguments' about making the story go this way or that way.

It was *not* cute.

Ooh, I remember those! I meant to post one in a fic in the author notes section one time, but my writing friend encouraged me to take it out before I posted it. I had fun writing those out and sometimes they helped me get perspective on the story, but they were like rough draft notes and didn't really belong in the final version of the fic.

I remember when people would post like - pages of the stuff, just on and on and on. AND THEN they started doing it in chat stuff, like there were two people instead of one and that was just enough, for me.

(and yeah, it was more than one person doing it, it was a whole raft of people for a little bit)

Oh, God, that's just embarrassing.

It is. It was. I could never get why anyone *wanted* to do that.

God I remember doing this a couple of times on ff.net because I thought it was EXPECTED due to the fact those things always seemed to be well received and fawned over.

I hated it. I abandoned the account on ff.net that has those fics on it as well because it just didn't feel like me. What a revelation to find out most other people hated those conversations too but apparently we were either keeping quiet about it and/or being polite.

Ack!!

That's a bummer - sorry you felt like you had to!

(Not all of us were polite about it, but...it was a little more 'live and let live' in some aspects back then.....)

I agree so much, it is not cute at all. It's just... weird.
