They're talking about the forced oral sex scene in the first book, where the Laurent directs a courtesan to perform on a bound Damen against Damen's will, and it's implicit in the text that the courtesan is just a proxy, this is a battle of wills between the two of them. It's a pretty controversial scene even among fans, because the story otherwise makes a point of delaying sexual relations between them until Damen can truly consent, plus Damen never thinks about it as a violation like he does the beating you mention.

AYRT

Even if he likes it, it's still rape. Even if he's an unreliable narrator and the author is an asshat who doesn't understand the definition of rape, it's still rape. It happened because Laurent commanded it. So I'm not sure why anyone is arguing the point. Hell, Damien thinks Laurent is a super guy even when he threatens him with rape, even after he tries to follow through and drugs Damien so he'll lose the pit fight and get raped, so I'm not sure how reliable he is as a judge of character. He gets feelings for that asshole even though Laurent has him flogged very near death. You see where I'm going with this? Damien is not super picky about the worthiness of his abusive, rapist boyfriends who force him to give him sexy nude baths when he's got no choice in the matter.

That's why I backbuttoned out of this piece of kinkmeme hooey.

I'm not arguing the point. Like I said, it's a controversial scene, and I pointed out that Damen not thinking of it as a violation, though he dislikes it, as part of why it bothers people. Damen is an unrepentant user of slaves himself, who spends the first book hating Laurent almost as much as Laurent hates him, and the nude bath gets Damen flogged because he gets turned on, grabs Laurent, and makes it clear he could overpower him and do what he wants. Framing the first book as a fraught love story on Damen's part when there's a scene where he seriously considers standing by while Laurent is raped and murdered really misses the nature of the first book.
