103: Hmmm, why don't you point it out? You say it like it's a bad thing... good tales are here to be told and retold, tweaked here and there, etc. Authors like Shakespeare would have laughed at our obsession with - and our concept of - "originality".

129: yep, like 99,99% of media products. At least they're trying with the portrayal of so called alternative sexualities, eh. Oh, and don't forget the fat hate, too.

151: It certainly *is* objectification. Or not. But then, characters *are* objects.

170: seriously? Whoa. Mello and Near both aren't quite right in the head. I hated Near too at first, didn't like his first remark about L, then he grew on me. Mello, hmmm... well, he did the one big sacrifice, but other than that? He seemed closer to Light than to L (before he got "purified by fire", ehehe).

Hmm, interesting point. Is the public persona of an actor or actress just like a character? I believe so, and I think that's what people play with, for instance, when they write "real person" stuff. That public image is a construct, after all, something that remains virtual.

The real person themselves isn't, as a rule of thumb, accessible to the general public. Problems arise when fans go crazy and want to "go backstage", if you will; stalking is a good example of that.

But I get your point, because the line does get fuzzier with that type of stuff. While admitting to the world you'd hit, say, Pikachu, isn't harmful to anyone (well, except the poster of said secret ;p), I can see how saying you'd hit on Hugh Laurie is a bit more disconcerting. And no, the latter isn't respectful of the person, but then again, I think it's the image they're talking about, not the person. I still have enough faith in humanity to think most of the "I'd hit it" posters 1) do that in a joking way and 2) can tell the difference between a glossy magazine cover and a real person.

And wow, that ended up way longer than I intended. Sorry about that.
