How is this fandom? Fandom of "Hollywood"?

Theatre is definitely a fandom. But if you don't like it, feel free to make and submit more fandomy secrets, the community can use them!

I thought there was always theatre secrets on here?

(Anonymous) 2018-11-06 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
nayrt - You're correct. There have been secrets about theater, theater actors, etc. and they're fine.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-06 05:40 am (UTC)(link)
You've never heard of theater fans?

(Anonymous) 2018-11-06 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
What does this mean? Obvious about what?

(Anonymous) 2018-11-06 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
being gay, I assume

I'm going to posit that that's not specific to that profession.

I bet some gay people get told to 'tone it down' a lot of places.

Re: I'm going to posit that that's not specific to that profession.

There's something even stupider about it in a profession that's supposed to "act to the back of the crowd" and therefore be a bit more exaggerated anyway

Re: I'm going to posit that that's not specific to that profession.

da

would people even believe there were no gays in theatre?

(Anonymous) 2018-11-06 03:01 am (UTC)(link)
Wow, people are still telling actors this? That's really sucky.

... or to lesbians, bisexuals, non skinny people, people of color, etc. I mean it isn’t just the performing arts, but you get the idea.

I think it's specifically the contrast of theatre being "full of gay men" (and pretty much inextricably linked in the western cultural consciousness as being so) while being hostile to those same gay men acting visibly gay.

Afraid you are right OP and I even have a sad example for you. My brother's favourite actress / director / head of theatre group was one of the people who went on a rant how 'gays ruin theatre' and does not employ such. Or Jewish people (I assume if someone is both - she explodes). She is quite an important person in her country of origin so ... assume half of actors whom got declined because of this were due to her.
