It's not a good thing, but this is how business works and why we must make our money talk for us.

(The government of a state is the opposite, their goal should be to take care of their citizens and not making money. SOMEONE hasn't ever learned that, but that's another discussion entirely.)

We can also make our votes talk for us by instituting strong financial regulations and anti-trust laws to limit the power of economic concentration and monopoly.

The thing is that there isn't actually just "the way that business works". The way that businesses operate is a function of the legal, regulatory, and financial environment in which they exist. It's only a matter of political will to change those things. We've done it in the past and we can do it again. Solidarity forever.
