1995 - Graduates from University of Iowa with a dual MBA/JD.
1996-2004 - Works in various Iowa law firms doing corporate law.
2002 - Runs for Iowa State Treasurer as a Republican. Loses.
2004 - Appointed to serve as U.S. Attorney for Iowa by George Bush. Serves until 2009. During his time as U.S. Attorney, he was accused of indicting a Democrat for extortion for political purposes. The Democrat was found not guilty.
2011 - Co-chairs Rick Perry's Iowa Presidential campaign efforts, after briefly working on Tim Pawlenty's campaign.
2014 - Ran for Iowa Senate and was defeated in the primary, coming in fourth.
2014-2017 - Works at a law firm while also serving as Executive Director of a conservative watchdog group, the "Foundation for Accountability and Civic Trust" (FACT). FACT, like Judicial Watch, was funded by conservative donors and filed multiple complaints against Democratic politicians on alleged campaign finance violations, including Hillary Clinton.
2017 - Opines frequently about the Russia investigation, including a CNN Op-Ed entitled "Mueller's Investigation is Going Too Far," which says that Mueller would be crossing a "red line" if he investigates the President's finances.
2017 - Appointed as Jeff Sessions' Chief of Staff. Last month, White House Chief of Staff John Kelly described him as the White House's "eyes and ears" in the DOJ.
