Babyshower

[personal profile] kaijinscendre 2018-11-08 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
So, my sister's babyshower is this Saturday. I got a couple questions.

1) Some people (who will be at the shower) bought their gifts off my sis's amazon wishlist and sent them to my house. Should I wrap these? Or just unbox them? Or give them to the person who bought them (though one won't come until Saturday)?

2) We are making mini pigs in a blanket, a homemade vegetable tray with ranch dip, a homemade fruit tray with cheese cream dip, and a cake. Should we make one more finger food? What would you all recommend for drinks?

3) Should I do games? There are only going to be around 10 people, with half being family.

1) I'd just leave them in boxes. If you know people well enough, you can ask them what they want you to do.

2) If this is scheduled near a meal time, maybe one more savory snack food? Hot dips are usually easy, just mixing stuff together and baking. Charcuterie board? They don't have to be super fancy, just a couple of different cheeses, salami, olives, gherkins, etc.

Depends on the crowd but maybe a pitcher of strawberry lemonade (surprisingly easy to make if you have a blender) that can be spiked with vodka or mixed with Sprite or club soda as a non alcoholic drink.

3) This has been true for every bridal/baby shower I've ever been to - people groan about how cheesey games are...and then they get super into it. Maybe get some small, silly prizes.

I will text the person to see what they want to do.

Thought about doing a dip but not sure what kind. This will be from 1-3 so sort of between meals. Lemonade is a great idea!

Yeah, we got some Bath and Bodyworks stuff we can give as prizes.

1) Well I've got issues with wrapping things, so if it were me, I'd make presents out of everything!
Honestly though, I'd just let the people who bought them know that they arrived. Was it planned for people send them over to your house? I just find it strange is all... If they can't come pick their gifts up in time for the party, see if they can show up a little early to wrap things up before your sister arrives. You seem to be busy enough as it is, so unless you have the time and really enjoy it, only offer to do it yourself if someone really makes it clear that they cant do it themselves.

2) It depends on how long the shower is expected to last... I'd say that's more than enough given the event only takes a matter of hours. Just so long as you spread them out a little. Like the fruit/vegetable tray as people arrive, the pigs in a blanket after everyone sits down and the gifts are being opened, and the cake as the big finale.
Maybe wine/sangria spritzers to drink. It depends on what you, and your guests like. A spritzer is basically made from wine, juice, fruit, and a sprite like soda. So there's enough variation there to offer something else if someone wants

3) Games are always fun! My cousin did a guessing game of sorts where they gave you a list of typical baby items, and you were to guess the cost of each. The person who came closest got a little prize, a goody bag type thing. At a wedding shower we had a little treasure hunt type game, where we were given a list of various things, and whoever had the most of the items on their person won.
Of course any game is great, and is nice to have around, even if no one plays it!

(and hope you have a great time!)

We are going to do a couple games. The whole thing will hopefully only last 2 hours.

The best baby shower game I've played was when everyone was given two clothes pins (bead necklaces work too). If you said the word "baby" then the first person to point it out took one of your clothes pins. The person with the most pins at the end wins.

I've also had to race against another person to put a diaper on a baby doll while blindfolded.
