Were they playing significantly older/younger or was the story more about the difference in the amount of experience they had and how he was on a downswing in his career due to alcoholism and depression as she became a rising star due to her talent?

I think Ally was supposed to be around the age Gaga was when the movie was filmed. She wasn't a young ingenue, she had been on the margins of the industry for years.

I don't know what 'soundtrack is a bop' means. Is that good or bad? It rhymes with flop to me, so my brain keeps telling me that it's a bad thing.

Bop, derived from the term bebop, can be used to describe a song, usually a catchy or pop song (“did you hear that new Lady Gaga bop”) or a dance (“I was bopping to the new Lady Gaga album”) but has now colloquially been used as “a bop”, which means a song or album is catchy, good, and maybe makes you want to dance.

It’s actually a pretty old term the exact usage of it has just shifted over time + it’s come back into popular language pretty recently I think
