For actual context: some gamers are angry because Blizzard made a mobile-only Diablo game the feature Diablo event at Blizzcon, a convention for PC gamers, in a really tone-deaf way.

The mobile Diablo game is made in partnership with NetEase, a Chinese mobile gaming company known for its microtransaction-heavy, p2w games. It also seems like a Diablo reskin of their existing games.

Personally, I don't care about the mobile spinoff. I don't hate that it exists. No plans to play it, but if people want to play and enjoy it more power to them. Blizzard making it the headline Diablo event at Blizzcon was a complete PR disaster though. That's why people are angry.

Do you think that the degree of their anger was proportionate to the thing that happened?

(Anonymous) 2018-11-12 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Of course it wasn't. It's the internet. They were all pissed about it for a week and now no one is talking about it.

Typical entitled snowflakes I guess.

Wait, sorry, I got confused, that's what gamers call literally everyone else.

I'm providing context, not judgment, in order to balance out the other very biased summary of events above.

Judgment isn't intrinsically a bad thing to provide.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-12 11:01 pm (UTC)(link)
I didn't say it was, just that judgement was not what I was seeking to provide. Context was, for people who hadn't heard the events.

It wasn;t like blizzard WANTED to make it the headline. They had some technical difficulties that necessitated it be the final.

blizzard are denying this - they've claimed that d:i was the planned big reveal for months

not sure i buy it but i've got no authority to dispute it

And because of the hype, everyone assumed Blizzard would be releasing Diablo IV, not a mobile game.
