Personally, I'm getting a little tired of people calling it a reboot of the old TV show when it's an adaptation of a run of the comics instead. Granted, I never read those comics and they might be considered a gritty reboot of the rest of the Sabrina comics, but still.

I’ve read a little of the Chilling Adventures comics (and I liked the show better tbh). They aren’t so much a reboot, more of an AU.

TBF, I think it's just that one is more iconic than the other. The Buffy reboot in the making is still being called a reboot of the original show, not of the movie that the show itself was rebooting. So I think it's just about what people associate most pervasively with the franchise, regardless of which came first.

That said, you'd think the Riverdale connections in this case would be a giveaway.

But will the Buffy remake be remaking the show or the movie? IIRC, the original movie was still fit into the basic canon of the show (having happened before Buffy moved to Sunnydale), so either way it's still the same thing. Sabrina the Teenage Witch was an entirely different series based on a different run of a side character in a decades-long comic series--way more splitting-off.

They are both interpretations of the original Archie Comics character but they are not related beyond that.

ayrt I think the source of my confusion is I have no idea what Archie Comics is. I thought it referred to that old dumb comic strip in the Funnies section of newspapers. lol I googled it and it's like, superheroes and stuff? whaaa

Archie Comics is a publisher that is mainly known for their cheesy family friendly comics about, well, Archie and friends (which is actually where Sabrina originated, she started as a one off character in the 60s and then got her own series), but they have expanded in recent years to also make “serious” comics and to modernize their image.

they are adaptations of different incarnations of the comic - the sitcom was the more light-hearted slice of life Sabrina while CaoS is based on the reboot of the series based on that title that is much darker and grittier.

People compare the two because both were television versions but everything else - beyond Sabrina being a half mortal who lives with her aunts and has a human boyfriend named Harvey - is different.
