It's not a concern in real life because, fortunately, soulmates aren't real. That's why you get multiple shots at love because there's no one person you were meant to be with above all others.

The same can be true in fic. There is nothing about the soulmate trope that means there can't be another shot at love.

You can write anything in any which way to dodge a complaint about a trope, that doesn't mean everyone has to find the trope enjoyable on the whole. Most soulmate fic I see is "Everyone gets one soulmate and grows up wondering when they will meet that one specific person" and it's always a happy ending because it's about shipping.
