But if someone is "best," that means everyone else is "not best" and you will always know that, no matter how happy they make you. It's much better not to have a definitive, pre-ordained "best" because that puts all possible relationships on equal footing (in terms of potential - obviously they don't all have an equal chance of working out). Whoever you're with could be the best. If you break up or they die, then the next person could either be the best or be of equal best-ness.
