I don't think this isn't what's happening at all! The idea of taking a character that's cast as monstrous or villainous, and finding a queer reading of that and relating to those characteristics, is a really well-developed, rich concept. It's a interesting and complicated topic, and I don't have enough expertise to really do it justice, but there's definitely A Thing there, not just representation-thirst.

I didn't mean to sound like I was dismissing people who find LGBT+ interpretations in Venom D: Lord knows I've read plenty of analyses in that vein.

But for me there's a significant leap from "Queer reading of a character cast as monstrous/villainous" to "Totally canon gay couple" and I feel like I see a lot more of the latter than the former when it comes to Eddie/Venom. I also think fans are assigning a certain level of intention to said subtext which IMO gives the filmmakers FAR too much credit.
