I'm seriously baffled here. Who does that? I've never had anyone do that for any of my fics, and if they did I wouldn't tell them shit.

I'm glad someone else said this because I wouldn't give it spoilers, either. Like the OP, I don't always know how my fics will end and I can't guarantee anything. What if I change my mind, or the story goes in an unexpected direction and I decide to follow it instead of my original plan? (Not that I plan much, tbh.)

And second I just... I don't know, asking for spoilers rubs me the wrong way. I tag with basic content warnings for the obvious stuff. I wouldn't like it if people seriously contacted me wanting to know about plot twists or something like that.

+1

to you and OP. I'm equally baffled and what the fuck people? you don't get spoilers. you get the story I'm telling you.

Same. The only time I shared my writing plans was when someone I knew personally from fandom (and so knew them to be respectful and discreet) was curious about a specific, unusual trigger that clearly related to the story I was telling and wouldn't be a typical tag. They didn't ask for spoilers, but wanted to know if it was safe for them to continue reading.

Other than situations like that, readers can fuck right off with that entitled bull shit. My God, is it not enough writers produce and post fic? Now they have to provide spoilers on demand now too?!

I've seen people do it publicly in the comments of fic, but it generally goes more like, "Hi, I like this story but I'm worried it will have character death/rape/a love triangle/whatever, please give us readers a heads up if it will?" and then the author will respond yes or no, or maybe PM the reader with more details.

This is the first time I've seen an author complain about being bombarded by PMs asking for spoilers, so either OP is in a super weird fandom or maybe something about their writing/tagging is causing their readers to seek out spoilers?

I've never PMd an author for spoilers, but I ALWAYS skip to the end of a long fic to make sure I'm not wasting my time reading it.

I had QUITE a few people ask on my fic, but they always asked publicly. And no, I didn't give them an answer.
