Or maybe Disney's decision making about Star Wars is just weird and not indicative of some deeper confirmation of your personal fan feelings

(Anonymous) 2018-11-18 09:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I loved him too. I'm glad to get more! :)

(Anonymous) 2018-11-18 09:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I feel like it has more to do with the fact that Felicity Jones is a bigger actress and not as easy to get as Diego. The character of Jyn was given a novel featuring just her, so it's not like she's not getting content. Lots of people like her.

I'm personally very meh about both TV series. I'm sick of all the Rebel/Resistance focused content (and I'm including EU too). I want more Jedi or Force stuff.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-18 09:47 pm (UTC)(link)
I think it's great. For years, during the Prequels, I wanted to see more of the other people in the universe, movies and the EU. Not everything is about Jedi or Sith.

Uh... It's really difficult for me to imagine how she's too famous or too busy to turn down the lead in a STAR WARS series. There aren't many actors who'd fit that description. I seriously doubt that Felicity Jones is one of them.

Well they tried with Forces of Destiny with her.....that didn't do so hot.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-18 09:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Forces of Destiny itself wasn't the best, so I wouldn't say you could single out Jyn alone. Have you seen Jenny Nicholson's review of it?

Tbf, Jyn teaming up with Sabine was great.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-18 09:30 pm (UTC)(link)
But aren't the events of Rogue One the first big, remarkable story that Jynn would have been involved in? Unlike Cassian.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-19 02:07 am (UTC)(link)
After her parents were murdered, Jyn was taken in and raised by the notorious terrorist/freedom fighter Saw Gerrera.

Yup, dudes getting movies while women get lead roles 30+ years later is definitely about charisma, there's no other deciding factors in Hollywood, you nailed it.

Nah, K2SO is the best character in Rogue One.

Says the girl who didn't like Rogue One very much...

(Anonymous) 2018-11-19 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
OMG, same. Only character I'd be interested in following.

Says the girl who actually fell asleep in the theater.

Okay? I'm excited too. I loved Jyn a lot, but Cassian was great too. Honestly I loved every part of Rogue One, and I'd be happy with any of the characters getting a series.

This.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-19 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
.. and by all means let's blame/hate the character and not the writers!

(Anonymous) 2018-11-19 08:03 am (UTC)(link)
This is such a silly comment. Of course it's the writers' fault for not writing a more compelling character. But knowing this doesn't make the character any better.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-19 10:17 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm genuinely perplexed how you think that suggesting a character isn't compelling isn't a criticism of the writing.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-19 02:01 am (UTC)(link)
Rogue One was basically the Jyn Erso story. We learned all about her background, so there's nowhere for a prequel to go, and there can't be a sequel featuring her after Rogue One for obvious reasons. Basically, there aren't any more stories to tell about her unless we get a TV series about her emo high school years.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-19 07:33 am (UTC)(link)
Except for that period of her life where she was trained in combat by Saw Gerrera... But yeah, I'm sure there's no potential for stories there.

I love Cassian, but I find the tone of this secret rather spiteful and smug. It leaves a bad taste in my mouth. It probably doesn't help that I suspect a lot of Jyn-hate is underlaid by misogyny. Sorry, I just do. If her character had been male, her arc of "emotional hardness resulting from her traumatic life evolving into finding something to hope and care for" would have been seen as a beautiful narrative of a tortured soul discovering meaning. As it is, she's typically labelled a cold bitch. Sorry, not buying that it's all based in 'writing'.
