I think it's less a personal obsession with guns, boobs, and honorable killers than it is being too straight, white, and male to think critically about some of the more toxic noir tropes before leaning hard into them, because his other series are nowhere near as bad.

his problem is that he is an absolute hack that has no idea about the role of noir tropes and how to use them

and also that he obviously doesn't want to write noir, because he's too in love with his self-insert and wants him to be the most badass motherfucker
