I’m not sure I agree that what James did to Snape was sexual assault. Assault, yes. But even if it was, Snape becoming a magical neo-Nazi and helping to kill people was worse than James sexually assaulting Snape by flipping him over and showing his old grey underpants to the world.

I have been both assaulted and sexually assaulted. Advocating for, and participating in, the murder of groups of people based on something they can’t help, like skin color or sexual orientation or lack of fictional magical ability, is worse than grabbing someone and showing off their underwear. Having it done to you does not justify, excuse, or even really explain joining a militant hate group, or there would be a lot more members of marginalized groups banding together to kill straight white conservative Christian men.
