Jaxom in the books is very bland but I think a charismatic actor with some tweaking of details (like the peasant girl subplot) would make for an interesting story, and might even convert some Jaxom-haters.

But I do feel it would be a shame if they didn't have a female protagonist when there's Lessa, Menolly, Moreta, Sallah, etc. as choices. I liked Menolly in the Harper Hall trilogy but not as much outside that. I know it's almost completely unlikely, but my dream would be for them to do Moreta. I loved that book, and an older woman being the protagonist would be lovely for a fantasy/sci-fi show/movie.

Hell yeah, that would be great.

My problem is actually less with Jaxom himself and more that Ruth, for such a unique dragon, was obnoxious. I remember reading it like "okay I get it, he's SUPER smart, but he doesn't have to be such an ass about it"

That and as a kid I didn't like the entire rediscover-the-supercomputer-and-destroy-the-red-star plot, which Ruth (and Jaxom) played a huge role in.

Yeah, Ruth annoyed me too. And that's certainly something they could rewrite to make him less annoying. I was thinking of Jaxom saving the queen's egg as the adventure for him, rather than finding AIVAS. But it would definitely depend on getting good actors for both Ruth and Jaxom to make it compelling, whereas Moreta's ride is just a compelling story for me in its own right.

The rediscover-the-supercomputer thing was my favorite part when I read these back in the day. I forgot Jaxom was the star of that. I found him boring (I never actually read The White Dragon all the way through - just skipped around) and I guess I must have selectively forgot his role.
