I have a policy to always believe the victims, all the way until something comes up that proves them liars.

innocent until proven guilty is officially fucked, huh

Why should a human being have the sane epistemological standard as a court of law

Human beings are not courts of law

Given that I am not in a jury, and have absolutely no power to actually punish someone, I don't think "innocent until proven guilty" counts here. Plus, it also goes for the victim, you know? Why do we have to believe they're liars until they prove they're not?

Also, here I also went on about WHY I don't believe the "victims", within their very first statement, so I guess It shows that my "something that proves them liars" is not a high bar to pass if the accused is actually innocent.

I am not in a jury, and have absolutely no power to actually punish someone, I don't think "innocent until proven guilty" counts here.

You do when you post your opinion online; so it absolutely does. Shitty as it is, the court of public opinion has real consequences for those whose persona is their brand is their career. In Stan’s case it no longer matters, but for the next celebrity labeled a monster or accused of filing a false claim, the tens of thousands of people blithely bitching on LJ, Tumblr, Insta, Twitter, Facebook, Reddit, etc about unsubstantiated gossip are causing the most harm. Potential employers pay attention to that.

Ideally we’d all stfu and reserve judgement until both sides have said their piece and the people responsible for investigating have done their jobs. But I don’t think that’s a thing anymore.

Why do people always use that standard outside of court? You are legally innocent until proven guilty. No one is required to believe you are innocent.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-21 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
People don't think about it. The words are familiar and smell good, and saying them points in a direction that they want to point, so they say them, even though as an actual realistic standard it's ridiculous.

No one is entitled to a good reputation, a job, a relationship, etc. If you behave like an asshole, I'm not going to way until a jury of your peers finds you guilty before I decide you're an asshole.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-21 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
*wait, not way. UGH.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-21 01:32 am (UTC)(link)
You mean allegedly behave like an asshole, unless you're a witness to said asshole behavior.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-21 01:38 am (UTC)(link)
oh so we can only believe what we see with our very own eyes? I guess Weinstein is fine because *I* never saw him do anything bad!

(Anonymous) 2018-11-21 02:53 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, because that's exactly what I said.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-21 02:01 am (UTC)(link)
I mean, yes, technically, what you say is correct, but by that standard almost the entire body of human knowledge is also "alleged". We have the ability as human beings to make inferences and draw reasonable conclusions based on indirect evidence.

If you don't think the evidence is substantive enough, say so. Don't make points like this that are frankly stupid.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-21 02:52 am (UTC)(link)
It's just as valid as the point before it.

And don't tell me what points I get to make.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-21 02:56 am (UTC)(link)
It's far less valid. It has 0 valid. There is no validity whatsoever.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-21 03:52 am (UTC)(link)
It's anti-valid. Just reading it gave credence to the Flat Earth movement and made the IPK weigh less than a kilogram.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-21 04:48 am (UTC)(link)
Nope, sorry. As much as some people like to believe otherwise, not all viewpoints are "just as valid" as others.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-21 03:16 am (UTC)(link)
Well, your comments are definitely those of an asshole, no alleged about it!

(Anonymous) 2018-11-21 03:28 am (UTC)(link)
Stan Lee is an asshole though. Sexual predator? Probably not. But asshole? Definitely.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-21 04:46 am (UTC)(link)
But this conversation is not about whether he's a generic asshole, so...

(Anonymous) 2018-11-21 06:16 am (UTC)(link)
Do elaborate.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-21 02:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Considering he blacklisted Jack Kirby out of the comics industry thus ensuring he died penniless and gave him little to no credit for creating half the marvel universe until he was six feet under, I’d say (and many agree) Stan Lee is a bonafide asshole who gets off way too lightly with creator worship. Ditko wasn’t his biggest fan either.
