A major disruption in routine, such as the death of a spouse, can contribute to dementia symptoms. Primarily because it reveals symptoms that came on slowly and were mitigated by routines.

DA - agreed! They were married 70 years or something. Even if he didn't have dementia, that can and does cause serious mental health issues. (Exhibit A: my grandmother. Exhibit B: my great-grandfather.) Not that it would be an excuse for sexual harrassment/assault, but it is certainly a contributing factor to his recent state and so is germane to the discussion.
