132. Monk is fantastic. I was going to say it's hard to compare to Who, but now that you mention it, I'm starting to see similarities (to New Who, at least).

146. Oops, you caught us! All slashers are secretly the same. Deep down, everyone who enjoys male/male relationships has identical tastes, motives, and sexual hang-ups. (Seriously, though: your friend may have all kinds of reasons for this fear, up to and including past sexual abuse. Don't be so quick to pin the blame on her.)

Not OP, but curious: what sort of similarities do you see to New Who from Monk? They're two of my fandoms, as well. Although hmm, I guess they both do have something to do with an emotionally unstable but brilliant man who frequently travels around with young, attractive women solving mysteries....wow, that's more than I thought.

Yeah, basically what you said.

Plus the hero's major loss which predates the show (I think? I haven't seen all of Monk) but shapes how it develops, the oddball plots, the way the plucky lady sidekick serves as the voice of common sense and normality when the hero is going off into his own world...they're totally different genres, but the emotional themes are similar.
