102. While I loved the Uglies series, as well, I have to agree Midnighters is better.

137. Why is it your business if someone else likes something you don't? GOD, you know, people like you drive me INSANE. Okay, so you don't like those books. Congrats, no one's got a gun to your head forcing you to read them, so don't. But other people's interest has nothing to do with you. Going so far as to disrespect someone simply because they have different tastes than you is downright petulant. I agree that Harry Potter is overhyped (I have no opinion on the other two series in that secret, as I've never read them), but they were an important part of my childhood and helped me to cope through a really hard time in my life. I am allowed to like them, and I shouldn't have to feel embarrassed to admit how much that series meant to me because there are people like you who will automatically write me off as an idiot. I was nine years old when I got into that series, and if I enjoyed it all the way to the end that's my business. It doesn't make me immature, it doesn't make me stupid, and it doesn't mean I have bad taste in entertainment. It just means one thing: I LIKE HARRY POTTER. So stop judging people for idiotic reasons.

I agree times a million. To go off on a bit of a tangent, it reminds me of some douchebag who insisted I was a complete idiot with no respect for good literature because I mentioned that I thought the prose in A Tale of Two Cities was rather boring.

!!! You and I sound like one in the same. Dickens bores me to tears, and when I mention that to people, they get all up in my face about how I shouldn't be an English major if I feel that way. Pfft, please.

Psst - fellow English major here, and also fellow Dickens non-enthusiast, until last week when I read Great Expectations (I had to, for my course) and I LOVED IT. It was so strange, because I've spent my life saying DICKENS NEEDED AN EDITOR, GOD, FAIL. And now I feel rather crushed, because one of the great certainties of my life has gone.

David Copperfield still sucks tits, though, and no one can ever tell me otherwise.

Uh, I don't quite know what this comment is trying to prove. Possibly my general approval of an English major who has enough balls to say they hated something even though everyone else thinks it is the fart of God. Which is how I feel about Ulysses. I practically got kicked out of my seminar for saying I couldn't finish it because I didn't like it.

Oh no, Great Expectations was actually one of the ones that made me hate him so. I'm actually rather embarrassed about how much I hate him, because I know a lot of people think me an idiot simply because he's not my cup of tea. But I can't lie. If I don't like something, I'm not gonna pretend I like it just so that people think I'm worthy of my major. I know my strengths and weaknesses, and English is what I truly love, Dickens or no. XD

It's good to know I'm not the only one who gets snubbed for their opinions, at least! And I totally understand about Ulysses. I read it all the way through, but I told my teacher I found it rather boring, and she reacted as if I were blaspheming. :/

See, I think this is something that a lot of English buffs have a surprising amount of trouble with - that you can know something is technically well-written and yet deeply dislike it for your own personal reasons. And that is OK.

I respect you in your dislike of Great Expectations :D
