[Roman Empire: Master of Rome - Jessica Green as Cleopatra]

(Anonymous) 2018-11-23 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
It's a Netflix original genre piece written by a nobody writer, directed by a nobody director, and starring nobody actors, I mean a little perspective goes a long way here, OP.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-23 01:26 am (UTC)(link)
Is it? I've not heard of it, but Jessica Green is hot af based on this secret, so my interest is piqued.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-23 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
I think she's hot, too.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-23 03:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Check out The Outpost where she does a lot of butt-kicking as sexy heroine.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-23 02:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Every famous, critically lauded writer, director and actor was a nobody once. I'm not sure why that's an excuse for poor quality work.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-23 06:31 pm (UTC)(link)
My point is that it's going to be difficult for them to cast great actors when the budget is low and there aren't any big names involved.

And my other point is that your expectations are probably too high if you're looking for "quality work" in a B-list Netflix original series to begin with.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-23 08:54 pm (UTC)(link)
You probably didn't mean to imply that only big name actors are good actors, but I'm kind of raising an eyebrow anyway. Low budget stuff doesn't have to mean crap. It often does, but it's not a hard and fast rule.

Cleopatra wasn't as attractive as you think she was. She was more charming than beautiful.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-23 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
I think that was their point.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-23 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
I think you're actually agreeing with OP

(Anonymous) 2018-11-23 03:23 am (UTC)(link)
Haha, pretty sure that was OP's whole point. I can understand your eagerness to correct a common historical myth, though.

OP.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-23 04:53 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, I'm aware of that. That's why I objected to the show casting a conventionally attractive actress in the role in the secret. That's why I expressed the wish that they'd at least cast someone with some charisma as well as looks.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-23 02:15 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL! Maybe read secrets more carefully before delivering your lectures in the future, anon. You want to make sure that the condescension is warranted before you lay it on so generously. ;)

I thought this was going to be about her leather dress when I read "what about historical accuracy".

(Anonymous) 2018-11-23 02:38 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah I thought this was going to be about the costume design or something...

(Anonymous) 2018-11-23 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
Honestly, any time I bring up costume design as one of the inaccuracies that bug me, all I get are a bunch of comments from people who claim they don't care, with a not-very-subtle hint of "... so neither should you because it's not a big deal".

But yeah, that dress...

(Anonymous) 2018-11-23 04:54 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, the leather dress/cape is ridiculous too, but even fewer people care about historical inaccuracies in fashion than casting.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-23 03:07 am (UTC)(link)
The Cleopatra in the HBO series Rome was excellent - she was very sexy (though not in the traditional way) and had an incredibly forceful, scheming personality as part of it. That series had a ton of amazing female characters, though.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-23 03:37 am (UTC)(link)
I actually thought this was an Outpost secret, because that show also doesn't even TRY to be anything but a mash-up of Ye Olde Medievale Fantasye with some quasi-zombies mixed in for good measure. :P

(The actress is very recognizable and ngl, she's hot.)

(Anonymous) 2018-11-23 03:06 pm (UTC)(link)
If Outpost ever figures out that it's a terrible show, it's going to be ridiculously campy fun. It has the potential to be tropey B-movie-esque cult-classic type trash, if it has the guts to go there. I really, really hope it does.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-24 06:19 am (UTC)(link)
Honestly I watch it primarily for the amazingly visible shipbait between the two female leads. They honestly have more chemistry than with whoever that guy is. X-D
