That's what I've assumed was a big reason for the love of the sculpt. I'm gen X and also only started collecting barbies in my forties.

See, this is what really boggles the mind about most of the SuperStar Barbies. Why do they all look like that? Why every part of their eyes are blue? People have been making miniature human figures that are actually beautiful and not creepy for literally thousands of years, how did Mattel manage not to find a single talented individual to design those dolls?
