Cold Case made some amazing song choices for most episodes...

Yeah, I never really liked Cold Case, but man they used some good tunes.

Whatever Ikuhara decides to do. Those are my favorite uses.

I think my favorite was all the cover songs three characters sang in Penguindrum. It was very cute, and a little heartbreaking, to have this little "what if Himari never got sick and got to be a pop idol with her friends" thing at the end of every episode, especially considering the whole changing fate theme and how that particular one never happens.

Good god how could I FORGET the duel songs in Utena?

I loved the Penguindrum music too - that theme during the climax just gets me every time. But the Utena music is definitely more iconic.

Yuri Kuma also does some fantastic things with a (comparably) lackluster soundtrack. It's amazing how well it goes with the visuals.

Utena's duel songs are AMAZING. Especially all of Juri's duels.

I'm sad to report that the only thing I remember about Yuri Kuma's music was a track that I thought was from Penguindrum. I was too busy trying to follow what was happening on the scree.

A track by Big Giant Circles that was used in the Halloween ep of Stranger Things, when Jonathan is taking Nancy home. It's really pretty.

I always thought Scrubs made great use of their music

I usually like the use of songs at the end of episodes of The Handmaid's Tale. They usually have the same themes as the episode, but the fact that they're rock songs brings me back from the idea of this horribly dystopian world.

Florence & The Machine's "Seven Devils" in the Revenge season 1 finale.

The times Gossip Girl used "New York City" by Among Savages and "Arsonist's Blues" by Patrick Joseph. (Yes, I ship Dair.)

The Witches of East End using Mecca Kalani's "Feel Me" during that orgy flashback scene in season one.

"Bad Karma" by Ida Maria in Teen Wolf. "Crave You" by Flight Facilities in Teen Wolf.

Life on Mars (the UK version, not the terrible US one) did an excellent job of using music to give it that 70s period feel.

that ep that ended with nina simone's sinnerman was AMAZING

Near the end of the first ep of The OC where Honey And The Moon by Joseph Arthur plays. Something about that moment with Sandy driving Ryan back to Chino and Marissa out at the end of her driveway at sunset, waiting for Luke, was just really poignant and melancholy.

I really liked Roswell's use of Fear by Sarah McLauchlan in the series opener, where Max heals Liz.

Mad Men used Bob Dylan's Don't Think Twice, It's Alright really well at the end of S1.

Buffy had a lot of fab music choices; I don't even know what to pick. Part of me wants to go OTT and pick the Sarah Mclauchlan season enders. But another part of me wants to be more subtle and pick, like, Ballad For Dead Friends from the scene in the first episode where Darla and co. take The Bronze. Or Stupid Thing by Nickel, which plays while Spike sees Buffy for the first time in S2. Or Virgin State Of Mind from when Bad!Willow prowls The Bronze.

The O.C. had such great music. Their soundtracks are fantastic.
