Vent/rant thread

Sad? Mad? Bad and dangerous to know? Post your gripes here!

I hate Christmas decorations, illuminations and music. If only all that crap didn't show up until December 1st I could tolerate it. But as early as mid-October? Fuck that shit.

I love Christmas and most Christmasy things, but I agree that it shows up waaaay too early. I mean, I was in the mall for hours yesterday and it was nonstop Christmas music. Not even some normal music and some Christmas music. Shouldn't they be saving that shit for December? Yeesh.

My experience is that it is pretty normal for things to be all Christmas after Thanksgiving is over. I get annoyed when it is earlier than that, but post-Thanksgiving really is the start of the Christmas season.

But it's been showing up even before Halloween these past few years!

But the start of the Christmas seasons doesn't have to mean 110% intensity, all guns blazing from the very first day after American Thanksgiving. It's annoying that no commercial entities seem to bother with ramping things up. I mean, I get why. It's easier and they make more money if they just spew it all out overnight, as long before Christmas as possible. It makes sense from a money-making standpoint. But on a personal level, the extreme lack of finesse annoys me.

I love seeing the town all lit up in December, but yeah, it seems like businesses are getting their Christmas on earlier every year. I took a week off in October and got behind the till on my first day back to see Halloween balloons on my right, and advent calendars on my left.

Enough complaining about GRRM not writing what you want him to. Seriously. So he's got writer's block on Winds of Winter. He isn't not writing it just to personally hurt you. And some of us are excited about Fire and Blood. Stop being an ass. He's come out with a new book. So it isn't the one you personally want. Doesn't mean you have to be an asshole about it.

Also, I appreciate my sister being her. But she's so high energy. her and her husband and her dog. They've just taken over the house. They are being a lot of help, which is great. But they are also ordering everyone else around and don't seem to care that I'm simply not capable of that much right now. They've gone out to the park for a few hours, and it is a real relief honestly. The house feels normal again.

None of these are super important or life changing but so far today I’ve been stung in the asscrack by a bee while I was gardening and had a sick chicken who’s on antibiotics that cause diarrhea shit explosively all over my lap, legs, and shoes while I was checking how her bumblefoot (foot staph infection) was doing. I went to change clothes and realized I was out of clean undies, so I guess I’m lugging my dirty clothes to the laundromat commando.

I need to save money to hire an electrician because the only outlet in my bathroom, one of two in the kitchen, my kitchen light socket, and my porchlight socket all went out a few weeks ago, but I just spent a bunch of money on the vet and for Thanksgiving and now I have to buy Christmas presents. Property taxes are due soon, and just the half that’re due in December will be $150 more than I make in a month.

And this is really dumb and I’m being stupid to care but there’s a huge, official prop and costume auction for one of my fandoms next month. I fucking love costumes and cosplay, and am only a couple inches shorter than my favorite character; there’s at least three of her costumes up for auction. But see above, re: property taxes, vet bills, presents for other people, keeping the lights on, and generally being a responsible adult. *sulks and dreams of winning the lotto*

STORY TIME

I lived in a rural kinda place the last few years, but moved to a city this January. I quickly discovered that I used my car minimally because the bus got me almost everywhere I needed to go, and I decided to keep it over the winter and sell it come summer. It's old and needs some major upkeep that'll be more than what I'll get if I sell it afterwards.

THEN someone backs out next to it, leaving a big dent in the driver-side door which now can't be fully opened without catching in the bodywork and bending it.

So because my car could potential break down any time (an overdue timing belt) and really needed repairs (the door), my dad let me borrow his old car, taking my car back home with him.

That was about a month ago. Today, the starter of my dad's car died, and I had to get it towed to a mechanic.

And I'm in this uncomfortable place of having a car I technically don't need, and my dad will probably insist on paying to have it fixed even as he's sitting on my old car that he's also reluctant to part with. I know I should tell him that I'll pay for the repair job since I'm the one using it, but if that was my car this happened to, there's a good chance I'd send it to the scrap yard.

There's the definite irony in how I'd be spared these problems if I never had any cars in the first place.

I'm tired of the trend on the internet where cynicism is good and being positive about anything is bad. It's emotionally draining, and when people complain that everyone is too happy I want to know what they're smoking, because personally, all I see is misery.

I'm too lousy looking and crazy to have a decent boyfriend. I'm tired of it.

This is going to sound like a pathetic and entitled gripe to those of you poor souls working retail (been there, done that, feel for you)... but I can't believe how fast this four-day weekend has gone. I can't believe tomorrow is Sunday.

I agree. I'm mad because I got a terrible sinus infection Thursday night and have wasted my entire vacation sniffling and hacking up gunk. -_- I also had to clean a bunch of shit to let appliance men put in my new dishwasher, and the dust made me feel worse. I didn't even want a new one, but the old one just up and down last week.

I feel the same! I had no specific plans after brunch with family on Friday, but the fact that I did nothing on Saturday has me in a bad mood. At least I had done a lot of cleaning and laundry before Thanksgiving.

I hate that my body requires so much effort to keep alive and to stop it from getting worse.

I want to stop taking my meds and cancel all my appointments and just not think about any of it until I die.

I've been helping out a relative who's unwell, and she's promised to pay me, but she hasn't said *when* she's gonna pay me, and I would *really* like that money for Christmas shopping and also maybe paying my rent, but I can't bring myself to ask just yet.

This person probably doesn't mean to take advantage of you, but that's all the more reason to bring it up now, don't wait. I suppose if you don't want to be confrontational, tell them you're going to need to scale back what you do for them or ask them to make other arrangements for their care because you need to find paying work.

Don't feel guilty for not being able to live and pay your bills with good intentions.
