After stepping back from one of my fandoms (that went through mailing lists and geocities/angelfire webrings to dedicated forums and lj to tumblr) I peeked back in and it seems a lot of activity is on discord servers and instagram.

That's the sense I was getting, too, but a few weeks ago I mentioned instagram as a new fandom hot spot and got laughed right off the thread.

Tumblr is very exhibitionist. The next gen of fans seem to prefer to do fandom more privately, and I think that's why discord has taken off so much.
