:( I have no problem going to movies alone and do it a lot, but I've found going to film festival showings or special screenings is a kind of midway, alone but together feeling, since we're all there to see the movie and not bored or on a date.

A anyway, no one is judging you. They aren't paying that much attrntion.

Aww, that's too bad, anon, but really, just go do stuff by yourself. I go to movies, dinner, lunch, etc. by myself, nobody judges or even looks twice, really. Don't miss out on fun things because of what you think other people are assuming about you, anon.

I miss going to the cinema alone. I used to go all the time when I was single but now it's rare my partner isn't with me.

Want to trade? I don't mind going to movies alone, but wish I had a SO (especially one whose taste in movies is compatible with mine).

Was your ticket for the new Pokemon movie or Superman's 40th anniversary or something else entirely?

Anyway, I know what you mean. I go to the movies often with a friend or friends who use their phones during movies and it drives me batty.

I love going alone though. Hopefully one day you'll reach a point where you can do so too.

I was thinking of the BTS 'Beyond the Stage' movie that had super limited showings. A friend and I went to see it, but I probably would have gone alone too. I love going to the movies alone. No one talks at me while I'm watching, lol.

I go to the movies by myself all the time. I'm not going to lie - it gets old when you don't have any choice, at least for me. But nobody ever seems to look at me twice. I think maybe it's becoming more common, though I have no statistics to back that up.

I'm used to going alone by now, because my friend group has other preferences than I. I found that as soon as the lights are out, nobody cares that I'm there alone, also, there are plenty other people going solo.

What I miss is the shared excitement, though, and they talking about it afterwards.

I go alone when my brother (my go-to for blockbusters) isn't available. No one notices. And I get more popcorn that way. :) It just sucks not having someone to discuss the plot/CG with right after. But it's also really nice being able to focus fully on the movie.

I genuinely struggle to see how people could make the Reylo vs. Darcy/Elizabeth comparison, even in fun. I'm not even offended, it just... doesn't make sense?

For what it's worth, I don't care about other people in the theater as long as they aren't loud or distracting.

It's sad people miss out of stuff because of fear of being judged when the truth is most people don't care what you do as long as you aren't bothering them.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-27 08:51 am (UTC)(link)
I generally go to movies with my sister...
It just so happens that I am the worst in movie theaters;; I don't even notice it, but I've been told more than twice by her that she's embarrassed to go to the theater with me;;

So if I want to go to a movie, I'll go by myself;; That way I'll at least have no one to respond/gush about too during the film...
I've never considered it odd, and haven't gotten any backlash about it by other movie goers- so I'd recommend you trying it out once yourself. Just to maybe prove to yourself that there's nothing wrong with it!

... wait, people consider it weird to go to the movies alone? Since when? It's a pretty common occurrence where I live.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-27 10:31 am (UTC)(link)
Seriously, anon, nobody cares who comes with whom to the same screening they attend. If they are with somebody, their busy talking to them (before the film starts),if they're alone - they're in the same boat as you are. If you feel very self-conscious, buy a ticket for a side seat and snick in 15 minutes after the official starting time - nobody will be able to really see you.

/To be honest - if I waited for somebody to have free time every time I wanted to see a film, I wouldn't see even half of them. People get busier as they grow older.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-27 12:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Why feel self-conscious about going to movies on your own?

(Anonymous) 2018-11-27 04:39 pm (UTC)(link)
No one notices or cares that you're there alone but you.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-27 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I go to the movies alone all the time. It's great. No one ever looks my way or anything and I just fully enjoy the movie on my own terms.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-28 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
I go to the movie theater by myself all the time. No reason to be ashamed. Doubt anyone even notices.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-28 02:01 am (UTC)(link)
I LOVE going alone (and doing all kinds of things alone) -- after working at a movie theatre in my younger days, seeing how many people go alone AND so many of us going alone ourselves on our time off, I don't feel weird about it at all. I absolutely hate having to agree on the time and the place and even where to sit sometimes. I'm never late and for some reason every time I go to the movies with a friend, THEY are late. It's annoying af. Go it alooooooooone!

(Anonymous) 2018-11-28 05:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay so I work at a cinema. A) nobody is judging you. Nobody in the auditorium, nobody behind the concessions, nobody selling tickets. Lots of people go to events by themselves and it isn't always because of loneliness. (Actually it bothers me more when someone brings their friend/SO who is a visibly whiny babyperson who clearly doesn't want to be there, because that's just fucking sad.)

B) Please go do things by yourself. It's seriously freeing. Who you are when you're alone in your room is not necessarily the person you are when you're on your own in the world and that is a person you should get to know. The easiest way to get past self-consciousness is to do it once. The first step is the hard one and then it gets easier the more you do it.

I love going to movies by myself. It is my favorite thing! I go to movies *I* want to see at times *I* want to go. I sit where *I* want to sit. I buy snacks without feeling guilty or judged or being forced to share. It's fantastic.

I'm slowly getting better at going to "real" restaurants by myself too.
