Yeah, it really isn't. I just see so many fics about how AWESOME!!!! he'd be as a parent and how great Harry would have turned out and etc etc etc. It's like they don't know Sirius "Reckless to a Fault" Black.

I don't think he'd be the best ever. I will say that sometimes people who were wild in their youth settle into parenthood well, though I don't think he'd be one of them - I actually think he would swing between indulgent and neglectful.

Exactly, and he wouldn't do it on purpose. So much as that's just... Kinda how he is as a result of his childhood.

Sirius was really immature and rather than being a parent to Harry, he would be more like an older brother who got him in trouble all the time. At least that's what I took away from Sirius' character.

Harry would have been happier at least. Though he might have gotten arrogant like James if he didn't rise from such an abusive childhood.

Yeah but... you're clearly going to the other extreme. "Completely amoral"? What makes you say that?

Without extenuating circumstances like imprisonment or murderous dark wizards, he would probably have been... kind of irresponsible and probably permissive as a parent. Likely a bit of a Cool Dad, not a regular dad, and then Harry might have turned out a bit of an "arrogant berk" like Sirius admitted himself to be back in the day (hey, that shows self-awareness and maturity!).

But Harry also would have been loved and not abused, so I'd say that's an overall positive.
