I was all for 1. And honestly, Harry didn't need that much parenting. What he needed more than anything else was a parental figure who loved him. I think he and Sirius could have figured it out together.

A baby abso-fucking-lutely needs parenting, Phil. Given the specific scenarios talked about are the ones where Sirius wasn't incarcerated and raised Harry instead...

Really? I thought we were talking about scenarios where he was able to parent Harry post-book 3. Yes, baby Harry needed parenting. Wasn't talking about that. No, Sirius wouldn't have been the best choice for baby Harry (though personally I think that a Sirius who wasn't imprisoned for something he didn't do and was given the chance to grow up would have been different and could have been a good parent). But by the time Sirius is actually free, Harry is old beyond his years. What Harry needed was love and agency. Someone who allowed him to be himself. People allowing him to make his own choices. He chose Sirius, and I think Sirius could have been what Harry needed.

The thing is, it wasn't just Growing Up. He was fucked by a toxic family and reckless to a fault and tbh I'm surprised he even survived to adulthood, even though I'm sure he only did so because Remus and James acted as a moral compass. Sirius was NOT what Harry needed, as Sirius represented the opposite extreme of the Dursleys--which is why Harry wanted that. He saw someone who was their complete opposite, with all the permissions and the love and the positivity and the indulgence but none of the real rules or anything. He saw magic and adventure--he was a fucking teenager, for Christ's sake! Of course he wanted that after his abusive childhood!

What Harry needed was someone more like McGonagall, who thinks of his welfare but allows him freedom to grow and explore himself.

Keep in mind: there would also be an strong network of family and friends to help with Harry in this scenario. Lupin would still be employed at Hogwarts, and the Weasleys wouldn't be dealing with all of the Percy drama - I think they would do a really good job of correcting for Sirius' problems between them. And Sirius wouldn't be dealing with being shut up and on the run.

It's really hard to overstate how much of a disaster the end of Prisoner was for everyone... except Ron I guess, he got an owl out of it

The Dursley's hated Harry and still managed to keep the baby alive. Sirius would actually loved him.

This irrational hatred sounds like a bitter Snape stan.

This. Honestly, I feel like some people hate him so much it is blinding them to the possibilities that his character could have had in an AU where he either wasn't imprisoned and therefore had the chance to grow up or was allowed to stay with Harry after POA and does not end up trapped in Grimmauld (which, for someone dealing with false imprisonment and dementors for 12 years, must have brought up a lot of bad memories and brought out the worst in him).
