I'm not saying he's barred forever--I'm saying it's basically impossible to redeem someone who doesn't /want/ to be redeemed. As of now, he's on a track to become the next "devil figure", and I'll believe a redemption arc when I actually see evidence of one existing.

Anyone can be redeemed, sure, but it's not a given thing just because a character has a sad backstory.

Never said it was. I don't know what direction they are going to go with for Episode VIX. Maybe they'll redeem him, maybe they won't. As long as it is a compelling story, I don't care either way. All I'm saying is that it isn't impossible.

I just wanted to thank you for all your reasoned and nuanced comments in this thread. (Honestly, the more I poke at Skywalker family dynamics, the more I think that all Snoke had to do with Ben was sit back and flavor his popcorn with everyone's tears. And I say this as someone who loves the Skywalker family. ALL OF THEM.)

I think people look at the original characters through rose colored glasses. I love all of them, but there is no chance whatsoever that they were going to be a perfect, happy, well-adjusted family. Ever. They all had serious issues.

Few meta post that in my opinion reflect the story of the SW movies beautifully - and yes, why everything I've seen on screen points to the fact that Kylo will be redeemed.
