That was me when I was a college student - whether in class or during my campus job at the library.

But now I am a grownup with a salaried job, and my fic is kinkier than ever, and I...

oh who am I kidding, I still do it, but on my personal laptop when it isn't on a work internet connection because I'm paranoid.

Good plan. Employers can put spyware on their property. I doubt anyone would check, but it's possible.

Ha! I'm paranoid about that too...which is why I have a dedicated notebook to jot down ideas that I bring back and forth to work everyday.

Hehe, me too! I used to have too much down time, and as long as I looked like I was working, the boss couldn't care less. ...not that she knew I was writing fanfic, of course. Now I wonder how many others at work have done that... NONE of them seem like they'd indulge in fanfic, but maybe they think that about me?

I would love to write fic at work, but I also love to write kinky fanfic so... it's a bad idea.

I used to write so much fic while I was in school. I wish I could write at work, but I'm in front of people all the time.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-28 02:38 am (UTC)(link)
what kind of jobs do people have where they can write fanfic at work? (and do these jobs pay well because damn i want one.)

(Anonymous) 2018-11-28 04:07 am (UTC)(link)
I'm just a salaried office worker, and with my own office (semi-shared, but alone enough of the time where no one would really see what I'm doing). It's amazing how much you can fuck around at salaried office jobs, lol.

midnight shift at a hotel. Pay is - eh. Fairly decent but probably not enough to live on if you're living alone and in charge of all the bills.

I wish this was me. Mostly, I wish I still wrote fic, but I do also have a lot of downtime at one of my jobs.

I also did this at my last job. Seems we're in good company!

I'm trying to do this at work since I have fuck all to do, but I am way too anxiety-ridden and paranoid. It's also hard to relax and get in the zone when I can't play music and stuff. Glad it works for you though anon :)

Not only are my work systems monitored, there are regular check-ups and I've seen the consequences up close: people have gotten written up, which is the first step towards getting fired. While I don't like it, they're up-front about it when you take the job, so... But I WISH.
