Or they might just not be into that part of it.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-28 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
Yep.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-28 12:40 am (UTC)(link)
Exactly. I don't need all the fine details of something in a fic. If I want to learn about tattoo aftercare (or any other subject), fanfic is not going to be my go-to source.

DA

It's not about fanfic being a source on a subject. It's about not being thrown completely out of the fic by biology, physics, and history being completely wrong in a contemporary fic.

Sounds like a personal problem. Maybe stick to pro fic?

(Anonymous) 2018-11-28 12:54 am (UTC)(link)
nayrt - Professionals also often do a half-assed job. And it feels weird to imply that amateurs aren't expected to be good just because it's fanfiction.

"Good" and "thorough" aren't the same thing.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-28 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
I agree. But it's one thing to leave out details you don't want to focus on and another thing to write a story where the reader is "thrown completely out of the fic by biology, physics, and history being completely wrong" like that one anon said. I don't consider that good.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-28 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
Wow, you really twisted that around!

I'm not saying amateurs can't be great. Just that you might be better off with pro fic if you get "completely thrown out" of a fic because of minor details because, yeah, most fic writers can't be bothered. They're in it for the feels, which is perfectly valid in an of itself.

I didn't think this secret was so much about info being "wrong" as... not being there in the first place.
