About 2 months ago, I quit playing League. It sucked up my time and energy, indirectly costing me a job.

Quitting’s made a huge improvement in my life, and the recent lawsuit against Riot has just reinforced my desire to stay off the game.

But I can’t help missing it.

I’m still craving those highs I got from winning or pulling off sick plays. I’m trying to find other pursuits that give me that sense of satisfaction, but so far nothing has the immediate reward or validation.

I’ve been lurking on places like r/StopGaming for assurance than I’m not the only person struggling with gaming addiction, but it’s still embarrassing that quitting a fucking video game is having the same emotional/mental impact of breaking up with someone or trying to get sober.

Good on you for admitting your problem and making steps to fix it.

Don't be embarrassed, OP. You said it yourself - you got a 'high' from the game. Those same endorphins and brain chemicals come to play in all sorts of 'addictions', and in relationships, too.

So it's perfectly normal, and good on you for seeing the issue, and dealing with it.

Don't feel embarrassed, OP! Doing things that improve your quality of life is always something to be proud of. And gaming addiction is tough because it has fewer resources & established supports to help you quit than getting sober (speaking from experience!), so good on you & keep fighting the good fight!
