I think I'm the only person on the planet who genuinely enjoyed Crimson Peak.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-29 12:48 am (UTC)(link)
Nope, so did I and I’ve seen some cool art and cosplay.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-29 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
I loved it, but it wasn't universally loved.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-29 01:21 am (UTC)(link)
I quite liked it.

I loved Crimson Peak, but then again I was 100% in it for the aesthetic and costume porn

Well, yes, precisely. I didn't think it would be High Adrenal Terror like some people apparently thought they were going to get? It was a gothic romance and it was BEAUTIFUL.

I loved it. It was a gorgeous gothic romance that unfortunately suffered from being marketed as horror.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-29 05:15 am (UTC)(link)
It definitely has horror, though, but it's psychological horror, not the jump scares and torture porn that most people associate with horror. I think it did a fantastic job at creating a thoroughly unsettling atmosphere without needing to go for more overt horror.

Me too. For a long time I avoided watching it because I tend not to like horror films because of the frequency of gore and jump scared, the colour-coded marketing made it look sort of like a YA fantasy novel and because I only heard about it in fandom because of Tom Hiddleston (I was 2 years away from my own belated Hiddlestoner phase). And when I finally watched it, I freaking loved it - the gothic tones were a perfect match for me. The marketing really let it down in sort of critical arena and everywhere else it was reduced to Tom Hiddleston’s bare bum and fan girls drooling over him.

No way, I loved it. There's not enough gothic romance out there.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-29 03:21 am (UTC)(link)
I think it's really good. Light gothic horror with twisted romantic elements and an aesthetic that 1000% exemplifies those elements; it hits its niche so well.

I loved it. And I loved Edith so very much.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-29 04:53 am (UTC)(link)
I adored Crimson Peak, but the marketing department should've been fired.

Nope, evidently there's a few of us!

I love the Gothic romance/horror genres and it was perfect as that. Unfortunately as a lot of comments say it was marketed as some sort of jump scare Vicotrian slasher horror with ghosts and people were pissed off. Despite the cast repeatedly emphasising in their interviews it was a Gothic romance.

It was a beautiful film, but the pacing was uneven and a better balance between reality and the supernatural would have made it truly unforgettable: less meaningless dreamscape and more emotional impact.
