132. Aeris' personality is just like Rukia's and anybody who says otherwise probably wasn't paying attention or is just stereotyping her according to her class archetype. She is not the demure healing mage who is quietly in love with the hero and so will follow him to the ends of the earth and heal him quietly from the back row without ever growing anything resembling convictions or a personality.

I feel the fan rage coming on already.

Eh, don't really see it. Especially personality-wise.

Aerith was childish, lively, and a little too "damsel in distress"-ish. She's an admirable character, but I wouldn't group her in the same category as Rukia.

She was bright, sarcastic, blunt, honest, and while very social, ultimately secretive about herself and her worries. The way Rukia handled her execution is very similar to the way Aeris handled her misgivings about being an Ancient and her duty to the planet. Yes, you had to save her a couple of times - just as Rukia had to be saved - but she was never a "damsel in distress" and maintained an active role in almost everything (example: she was not kidnapped by Tseng, but instead gave herself up to ensure Marlene's safety).

I wouldn't have had an opinion on the matter if I hadn't. XD It's actually my favorite video game. I haven't seen/played any of the movies or spin-offs, however, so I don't know how Aerith was portrayed in those. My opinion on her was based on the game and I saw things a little differently than what you mentioned above. Different interpretations, I guess, but I can see your point.

I do think it's interesting how fans lock into certain qualities of a character in order to put them in a certain group.

Why the fan rage? It's natural for people to have different views regarding a character.

I personally don't believe Aeris' personality is like Rukia's and with all due respect, I don't believe those who disagree with you must automatically fall into the two categories you have created.

I mean, really. (-_-)
