Not OP, just the anon that answered on the other page. Nia was insecure of her own worth, putting a face of security just like Kamina was putting up a face of bravery. She tried to gain her own identity through the show; she just buried the discarded princesses as self-fulfilment to convince herself she and their kind weren’t just toys to be discarded after; she never got over Lord Genome considering her unworthy and just desired to become someone that could face Simon as an equal. Through the course of the show she overcame this, she went through so much development it’s impossible to consider her a Sue. It makes me mad how the fangirls that hated her ignored the conflicts she went through and most of the important emotional sequences she was involved in; basically proving a point in that they were just watching the show for superficial reasons. Besides, without Simon she would have grown as a cynical, depressive woman and that’s why their relationship worked: because they truly needed each other and it wasn’t an incidental and meaningless romantic subplot but an integral, beautiful, part of the show.

Everybody always does this when I insult Nia. MANNNNN, I am never going to change my opinion- I found her uninteresting, and that's how I'm going to continue finding her unless I rewatch the show and start noticing all this brilliant crap everyone's always referencing where she's amazing and not just a mindless idiot of a character.

Also? I watch all of my anime for superficial reasons, like enjoying it on the surface because it's not something I take seriously enough to really contemplate most of the time. So, go figure.

Re: 130

(Anonymous) 2008-08-25 09:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Then don't laugh at others opinions when you're not even actually using reason to determine whenever a character is interesting or not. Your reason to dislike her is not even based on the actual show, it’s just based on prejudice. I don’t care if you don’t like her, just respect people that do. Especially if when they give you actual reasons for their enjoyment of the character you’ll just resort to lame “I don’t even remember the show, dude” idiocy.

Re: 130

[identity profile] thrives.livejournal.com 2008-08-25 10:08 pm (UTC)(link)
a) internet, serious
b) it's based on the show; I don't know where the hell you got "prejudice" out of my saying "I watched the show and I didn't read it the way you did"
c) I never said I didn't remember~ I just said I didn't see it in the first runthrough.

Re: 130

(Anonymous) 2008-08-25 10:12 pm (UTC)(link)
But it’s not “reading” between the lines. It’s obvious character development. It’s not something hidden underneath, it’s something delivered by the narrative. It’s not my interpretation; it’s the very clear intention of the writers. Do you actually watched the show or where you just waiting for the robots to hit each other?

Re: 130

[identity profile] thrives.livejournal.com 2008-08-25 10:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, fine, the writers meant for her to be something that I didn't see her as.

To answer your confusingly worded last sentence, yes, I did watch the show! I didn't know that much about it before I watched, so I wasn't waiting for anything, particularly.

Re: 130

(Anonymous) 2008-08-25 10:17 pm (UTC)(link)
But then it’s a fault on your viewing experience rather than a fault on the character, making even worse the fact that you were apparently making fun of OP's statement. And my last question was supposed to represent whenever you were actually watching the show for anything else than robots hitting each other.

Re: 130

[identity profile] thrives.livejournal.com 2008-08-25 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)
--isn't the point of anime that you can watch it and interpret it differently? I'm sorry, man, I just don't see what the problem is with my having a different opinion and being a little bit of a dick about it in a comment. This is clearly rather serious for you, isn't it?

And I knew what you mean, which is why I answered it as I did. I'm not even a big fan of robots.

Re: 130

(Anonymous) 2008-08-25 10:21 pm (UTC)(link)
It's different to say:

-I didn't liked this character.

Than to say:

-HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA, this character sucks.

Re: 130

[identity profile] thrives.livejournal.com 2008-08-25 10:23 pm (UTC)(link)
It is! But it's still not serious.

Re: 130

(Anonymous) 2008-08-25 10:29 pm (UTC)(link)
If you’re not going to actually argue and you’re just going to make ridiculous comments to avoid confrontation then just don’t say the first statement in the first place. You can't state shit as fact and then just say "it's my opinion, dude".

Re: 130

[identity profile] thrives.livejournal.com 2008-08-25 10:31 pm (UTC)(link)
I didn't say it was fact! It was a quickly typed comment of my opinion. Which I've never tried to say it was anything but.

Re: 130

(Anonymous) 2008-08-25 10:37 pm (UTC)(link)
>HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
>It's funny because I'm right and you're wrong
>HAHAHAHAHAHA

Two posts later:

>Dude, it's like my opinion. It's not like I liked the show that much or anything. Don't argue this because I won't listen to reason, OK?

Re: 130

[identity profile] thrives.livejournal.com 2008-08-25 10:41 pm (UTC)(link)
more like
> HAHAHAHA
> no, really, this is how I feel about the character and nobody's opinions will convince me otherwise
> HAHAHA you are pretty silly, sir or madam, this is just my opinion

I never said anyone was right or wrong; I said I was never going to change my opinion based on what other people say about her. You can't force your opinion on someone else because an opinion can't be right or wrong, dude. I wasn't trying to force~ I was just saying that mine won't change based on other peoples' opinions.

Go take some pills or go outside or something, you are taking this faaaaaaaaar too seriously.

I don’t know. When you make fun of other people I don’t think “it’s just my opinion” is a valid excuse to evade arguments. It just makes you look dumb. You should take it easy and just stop posting opinions you don’t even have a foundation for.

Re: 130

[identity profile] thrives.livejournal.com 2008-08-25 10:10 pm (UTC)(link)
--wait, opinions on anime need foundations now? It's not just enough to dislike something for what it is? Man, where have I been.

Re: 130

[identity profile] 7thisgod.livejournal.com 2008-08-25 10:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Opinions need foundation if you're going to make fun of others for them. You need to chill and get off from that silly high-horse, you posted this because you wanted it to be read. Were you just trying to troll or something?

Re: 130

[identity profile] thrives.livejournal.com 2008-08-25 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Your last sentence basically sums it up.

Because any time I say anything about disliking Nia, no matter my reasoning, someone does something like this and gets all stupidly offended over it. At this point, I end up doing it just to see what sorts of responses I get, and if they're the argumentative kind it's all the more hilarious.

Re: 130

[identity profile] 7thisgod.livejournal.com 2008-08-25 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)
So you're just being a kid over it. What dumb attitude.

Trolls are supposed to be subtle, smart and well-hidden under a barrier of actually compelling arguments. This is just lame.

Re: 130

[identity profile] thrives.livejournal.com 2008-08-25 10:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Man, I do what I can do amuse myself. Way to be serious biz about f!s, which is quite possibly the silliest community on all of livejournal.

Re: 130

[identity profile] 7thisgod.livejournal.com 2008-08-25 10:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Trolling is very serious business. I take my laughs and amusement with utmost respect.
