I don't think that it was the result of a formal meeting where they sat down and drew any kind of a moral line in the sand whatsoever. I think that they were so desperate to make sure their business stayed viable that they decided to massively overreact and purge anything that could even theoretically prove to be questionable. The same way it seems like you basically can't search for anything NSFW anymore.

Feeling uncomfortable being on Tumblr, yes, absolutely. Tumblr is not a particularly well-run company, Tumblr does not particularly have its userbase' interests in mind, it only cares about the bottom line, and it has strong incentives not to allow a bunch of different kinds of content and behavior. In the same way that corporate actors are always all of those things.

+1

It is not a well-designed site and their "fixes" usually end up in disaster. A lot of stuff got purged, whether it was offensive content or not, in a panicked response to the app being removed from the app store. Whole tags were deleted. It's nothing personal, just ridiculous all around.

You mean there wasn't an extensive intra-office email chain regarding aged-up art of fictional characters?
