There are plenty of fandoms and media pieces that are more than 3 years old but still have fans, so not necessarily. I've submitted quite a few secrets about older media and books in the past.

I was thinking more just that the context was different, that they would be reacting to things, especially things in fandom, that are way in the past at this point. I def agree that secrets about old fandoms can be good. But there's also a lot of controversies, trends, events, etc in the space between then and now.

People are still aware of fandom history, especially if it was controversial enough to cause wank.

I don't see how.

The secret from years' gone by about not shipping Shawn/Gus because they thought if Gus were a woman, the general consensus would be that Shawn emotionally abuses Gus and therefore would be/ is an abusive relationship is still a valid opinion now even though the canon has mostly ended.

The secret from years' gone by about not wanting a The Princess Bride remake but thinking Michael Seater would be the perfect/only choice to play Westley is still valid. (I actually plan to one day make a response secret to that because I love it, but Seater is now too old to play the role.

The secret from 2012 about getting a black eye & having to lie about its origins @ work because the truth is OP & her husband were roleplaying as Black Widow & Loki in the bedroom & her husband accidentally elbowed her in the face is still valid.

...These three are the most memorable fandom secrets I can think of. And by most, I mean only. Except maybe the secrets from the presumed Australian with melting roads and what not.

What would the consensus be if Shawn was a woman and Gus was still Gus, I wonder.

Honestly, I can't even imagine how I would feel about that show with genderflips, or what I would ship under those scenarios. It's actually kinda fun to think about.

"not make sense" was too strong of a phrase, sorry. They would make sense. But I think they would be awkward in unintentional ways because of how the context of fandom has changed. Because of how much water goes under the bridge in three years.

I mean...it's possible, but I think you're overestimating how many secrets are context dependent to the extent that they're going to be difficult to understand after a few years have passed.
