Ok...
So...
Something about this has always bothered me. Can someone please explain it to me in a non-snarky "yeah but TLJ is trash tho." way? I genuinely want conversation about this.

Holdo was just following Leia's plan, right? If Leia hadn't been out of commission, she herself would have done exactly what Holdo did, right?
If Leia was the one doing it, would Poe have acted the same way? Or would he have trusted Leia's plan? Would he have thought Leia had gone nuts? Let's assume he's still demoted and so wouldn't be privy to this info.

Thoughts?

I'm not sure it was Leia's plan because she was taken out so early after they realized they were being tracked that she wouldn't have needed to go to Crait. There's a theory that during the initial meetings with Holdo, she didn't actually have a plan yet to tell anyone, but she develops one later, and I think that's a reasonable reading of the situation.

However, I do think that Leia would have come to the same plan eventually. I think Poe would have followed Leia even if she hadn't told him the plan because he has trust built up with her, but I also think Leia would have told him because she has a soft spot for him, and we've seen her having more communication with him explaining herself. She was grooming him for leadership, which Holdo wasn't. Leia and Poe have a developed relationship while Holdo and Poe don't know each other. I don't think the plan itself was something Poe would object to.

Given the entire reason Poe was demoted was ignoring orders when he thought he knew better and fucking up royally, I think he still would have done something stupid if it was Leia calling the shots. Possibly not the exact same thing, if for no other reason than "okay, let's mutiny against General Organa" is a much harder sell and it would've been just him and BB-8 trying to storm the entire ship, but trusting his commanding officers and understanding that there are strategies much bigger than his perspective allows him to see are not his strong suit.

Which is kind of ironic, since his role in the first film kind of implied he was an intelligence officer of some stripe.

nayrt

The first film said he was an daring pilot who could evade the First Order's fleet. Nothing about being in intel, beyond having Leia's trust.
