Yep, I agree. Both sides had elements of being right and wrong, but the only way for the conflict to work was by forcing the writing so hard as to be unbelievable. It was underdeveloped and poorly executed and the characters and movie suffered for it. I'll do my best, as a viewer, to try to fill in motivations, reasons, etc., but at the end of the day, I recognize that I'm doing the work the writers didn't bother doing so it's not worth debating as if there's a right or wrong way to interpret the scene.
