My mother is from the Baltic area, and she used to say that Hiccup in the first movie was incredibly well-animated to look like he was from there (especially avoiding the blonde stereotype). And the fact of the matter is that those boys grow up HUGE. My mom had a classmate who grew six inches in one summer and ended up in the hospital cause his body couldn't keep up and he got bronchitis with his weakened immune system.

I was only sorry we never got to see Stoick reacting to his "talking fishbone" of a son just exploding in growth like one of those time-lapse plant videos.
