The current ones on the market can be very efficient and relatively quiet. Wear warm layers and don't skip on nice thick socks and a pair of house slippers. Eat regular meals - low blood sugar can lead to feeling cold. In between meals, hot beverages like tea can help keep you warm. And occasionally get up and move around to get your blood circulation going again.
