But... don't you, though? Like something better? Maybe I'm not understanding the secret, would you mind explaining like I'm 5, OP?

Not OP

To me, it reads as being specifically related to the fandom in question.

For example:

OP's Secret: I HATE Finn/Poe

OP's Perception of F!S Commenters at large: Oh, you're only saying that because you're a Kylux shipper.

Whereas if I said

Me: I hate Stephenie Meyer's Twilight* series

Somebody: Oh, you're only just bitter because you love Melissa de la Cruz's Blue Bloods YA vampire series and wish it was as popular.

Well, yeah. I am bitter. I am bitter that my preferred YA vampire series isn't more popular. Especially because I could never convince my Twilight-obsessed peers to try Blue Bloods, despite the fact that they're both YA vampire fiction. I resent being alone in my enjoyment. And yes, this is quite obviously one of my real opinions. Or at least, it was 8-11 years ago. I've since come to appreciate Twilight in its own right.

But in OP's case, the shipping accusation may not even be accurate. They simply want to express disdain for specific ships or characters but they feel pretty certain they'll be dismissed as being bitter, the content of their secret derailed by discussion OP's perception of F!S Commenters at large's perception of OP's ship or character preferences.

I think.

I think the picture explained it? Disliking something can be not just because it's not the thing you like/love?

Also not OP.

Whenever I said I disliked Ron/Hermione people always assumed I was a bitter Harry/Hermione shipper who was butthurt because my ship wasn't canon. I din't ship Harry/Hermione at all, I just disliked Ron/Hermione because I thought they were not romantically compatible and their relationship was doomed to fail.

I think that would be an example of what OP meant?

Right there with you. Well, I used to be a bitter Harry/Hermione shipper. Stopped shipping that and still hate Ron/Hermione. The only things I ship are Trio (they work best with all three together) or Harry/Ron. And even when I did ship Harry/Hermione, I also shipped Harry/Ginny.
